  • Condition Description:
    Sometimes the script got very pale, so that some passages are hard to be read.
    The picture of the recto-page of Folio 1 is not part of the scan.
  • Decoration:
    The manuscript is rubricated in red and blue. One can find an illuminated initial letter on f. 1r . Taller intials in red and blue, littler ones either in red or in blue. No titles on the top of the pages, just sometimes the number of the book is given. Long Commentary on the Physics: Little red headings define, whether the following paragraph is Textus or Commentary. Sometimes they also give the number of the chapter.
  • Layout:
    Text is set in 2 columns.

    Every column has 65 lines.
  • Hand Description:
    The manuscript is written by one hand, except of f. 145r- 146v , where a later hand added missing chapters of the Long Commentary on the Physics (Book 8, c.77-79). The same hand added parts of Book 8, c.76 in the margins of f. 142v .
  • Binding Description:
    Bound in a folio sheet of music from 1075-1125 (?).
  • Acquisition:
    Donated by Bern Dibner .
  • Provenance:
    On f. x2 one can find two Ex-libris. In the upper left edge one Ex-libris of Leo S. Olschki in Firenze, who is an editor there ( offical website ). Another Ex-libris belongs to the Burndy Library founded in 1941 by Bern Dibner , saying that the book was chartered in 1941 gifted by Marvin Lee.

Averroes Long Commentary on the Physics 1r - 144v
  • Note:
    Textus: Scotus -translation. The prologues to books III and VIII are missing. Whether there is a prologue to book I or not, can not be found out because of missing material (f. 1r ). Book V: T/C 63 is placed at the very end of the book and T 64 misses. Book VI: First sentence of T18 is missing. T87 is mutilated. Book VII: A part of book VII is handed over a second time on ff. 107r- 108v . On f. 108v is then space left for some missing lines of C30.
