    Old layer markings at the start of each new layer on ff. 9r- 83r (b - k, on f. 9r : "2^us quaternus").
  • Condition Description:
    Water stains.
    Some of the parchment folds have script on them.
    On ff. 50v and 76r , the text is partly cut off.
  • Decoration:
    On f. 27v we have a tabula of spheres according to Johannes de Sacrobosco , Tractatus de Sphaera. On f. 28r , one can find an earth map with the five parallel circles and the zodiac, the latter repeated on 28v . Red and brown Lombards, partly with Fleuronné (ff. 1r- 27r ), space for initials left empty on ff. 65r- 65v . Rubricated from f. 27v onward. Watermarks within the fold: unidentifiable circles.

    Text is set in 2 columns in ff. 29r - 50v and 66r - 74r.

    39 - 56 lines to the page, except for ff. 1r - 28v (there: 27 - 34 lines to the page).

  • Hand Description:
    Older Gothic cursiva by six hands (ff. 1r- 28v by Ulricus dictus Mu^enderlingus [cf. f. 18v ], 29r- 39r , 39v- 50r , 51r- 65r , 66r- 74r and 75r- 85v ). The hands 2 - 6 are similar to those in the corresponding text parts in Munich, Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, Clm 28275, ff. 1v - 28v.
    Feather and ink changes.
    Titles and lemmata in textualis.
    Four later hands (postscripts): contemporary on f. 74v , late 14th century on ff. 50v and 65r- 65v and a 15th century bastarda on f. 85v .
  • Binding Description:
    Old half leather binding with red leather cover, rests of long-strap clasps.
  • Provenance:
    The origin of this codex is unknown, although on f. 18v , a scribe calls himself "Vlricus dictus Mu^endlingerus de Werdeo [Mündling near Donauwörth (Werdea)]" and dates: " 1358 ... In Gundelfingen [Gundelfingen in the county of Dillingen]". The fourth main hand dates " 1343 " (cf. f. 65r ).
    Old signature on the front cover: XXXXX. Thereafter, by a modern hand: "Moralia Auicenne " (read error, cf. f. 74r ).

    In the margins, we have: "salutatio assit in principio sancta Maria meo". There are two marginal comments: "Nota pro cautela virorum..." (f. 1r ) and "Nota licet sperma dicatur non habere naturam ... sed sperma V^elrici est superfluum respectu sui ipsius" (f. 16v , bottom). A postscript on f. 8v contains the "De quatuor complexionibus humorum" ("Largus amans hylaris ridens rubeique coloris ..."), eight verses with the appropriate page titles. On the same folio, another postscript contains the four elements, seasons, temperaments, ages and qualities ("Conparate aer ..."), as well as a recipe against menstrual pain in the margins.
