Detailed Description
  • Foliation:
    Flyleafs I-II are from the 18th century .
    We have old foliation in ink on the top right of the page on ff. 11r- 20v , 1r- 10v and 21r- 158v . Because the text does not follow the transposition of the fascicles, the foliation has to have been done before the text was copied onto the page. Ff. 11r- 20v has to have been copied before ff. 1r- 10v . Ff. 11r- 20v were numerated 1 - 10 at the bottom right in ink, by a medieval hand.
    The folio after 131v is unnumbered and the number 142 is used twice. The last folio has no number, probably because it was torn off together with the top right edge. The folio is damaged due to its function as back side protection.

    Reclaimers, except for fascicles 1 and 7. The reclaimers for fascicles 2-4 and 9-17 are in the middle, those for 8 and 18 on the right. Fascicle 5 has two reclaimers, middle and left and fascicle 6 has one in the middle (f. 61v ) and one to the right (f. 62v ). The reclaimers of fascicle 9 are in another hand than the scribe's.
  • Condition Description:
    Ff. 70r- 70v and 142r- 142v are torn off.
    The inner parts of the fascicles are reinforced by stripes out of a large parchment manuscript from the 14th century .
  • Decoration:
    The manuscript is decorated modestly, having initials only up to f. 2r . We have paragraph signs in red up to f. 2r . From f. 2v onward, there is no decoration at all. The watermark is a horn.
  • Layout:
    Text is set in two columns. The written area variates over three sections: Section 1 has 210/220 x 155/160 mm, section 2 has 210 x 155/160 mm and section 3 has 202/205 x 150/155 mm with distance between columns 10/12 mm in sections 1-2 and 17/18 mm in section 3.

    44 - 69 lines to the page. Del Punta, Faes de Mottoni and Luna give specific numbers for three sections: Section 1 has 55 on f. 12r, 60 on f. 30r and 53 on f. 58r; section 2 has 69 on f. 16r and 64 on f. 72r; section 3 has 49 on f. 82r, 44 on f. 121r and 45 on f. 150r.

    Ff. 18v- 20v , 69v- 70v and 159v are without script.
  • Hand Description:
    Text is written by four Italian hands.
    The first hand wrote ff. 11r- 14v , 1r- 10v and 21r- 66r ; the second hand ff. 15r- 18r and 71r- 78v ; the third hand ff. 66v- 68v and 79r- 159r ; and the fourth hand ff. 68v- 69r . The third hand wrote in libraria, the others in cursive script.
  • Binding Description:
    No binding, except for some parchment, on which the title is inscribed.
  • Provenance:
    On f. 11r , lower margin, we have a note of possession from the 18th century : "Monasterii Sancti Benedicti de Fabriano". The codex was once owned by the library of the Benedictine monastery of Fabriano.
    On the backing of the book we have the number of the general catalogue, Biblioteca Communale, Fabriano: 3413 (and, written with a pencil: 136).
