Detailed Description
  • Foliation:
    Each section has a foliation on its own. The online description of the Wellcome Library use these foliations.
    Section 1 (ff. 1r- 59v ): a foliation from 1-59, a lot of pages without number. The numbers on ff. 40r and 41r are swiched. This is a problem of binding.
    Section 2 (ff. 60r- 100v ): a foliation beginning from 2-42.
    Section 3 (ff. 101r- 169v ): a foliation beginning with 237 on the bottem of the folios. Another parallel foliation beginning on f. 110r is not continuous.
    Section 4 (ff. 170r- 179v ): 173-182 on the bottom of the folios.
    Section 5 (ff. 180r- 190v ): 270-281 also on the bottom of the folios.
    Section 6 (ff. 193r- 206v ): two foliations differ by one number. One beginning on f. 193r is continous, the other begins on f. 194r and only counts the first six folios.
    Section 7 (ff. 207r- 249v ): an ink foliation starting with '3' on f. 208r .
    Section 8 (ff. 250r- 291v ): a foliation in the upper right edge going from 1-48. Another foliation on the bottom of the page starts with 48 but is cut away partly or completely from f. 286r on.
  • Collation:
    A composite manuscript out of eight codicological sections.
    A binding mistake, leaves 40 and 41 are switched.
  • Condition Description:
    Two leaves missing: before f. 60r and before f. 170r . A part of the blank f. 100r- 100v is cut away.
  • Decoration:
    On the first leaf f. 1r is an ornamental initial S, in blue and red with floreated border decoration in red and blue, and red and green: in the lower margin an emblazoned coat of arms [Aldobrandino di Lippo of Florence ?]. Other initials of the first, the third, and some initials of the sixth and eigth section in red. Headings and of the first, second and some in the sixth section are marked in red. Paragraph marks of the first, second and third and some in the eight section in red. Items 17 and 18 are illustrated with rough pen-drawings of apparatus, diagrams, etc. (cf. ff. 232r , 233v , 234v , 235v , 236v , 238v , 239v- 244r ). Item 21 has a circular pen-drawn zodiacal figure in black and red on foleave 252r .

    Section 6 (ff. 193r- 206v ) written in a semi-current humanistic hand, 22 lines to the page . Blank: 203v- 206v .
    Section 7 (ff. 207r- 249v ) written in a rounded Italian gothic. 39-42 lines to the page . Blank: ff. 247r- 249v .
    Section 8 (ff. 250r- 291v ) the first 30 folios in a rounded gothic 39-42 lines to the column (cf. ff. 250r- 279v ). The remaining folios in several similiar, but probably later hands. Blank: ff. 280r- 280v .

    Written by a lot of hands, all in all in a small rounded script.
