Forse mai come nel Rinascimento vi è stato un interesse così intenso verso la filosofia e la scienza arabe. Ne sono esempio macroscopico le opere di Averroè, oggetto di una seconda massiccia ondata di traduzioni latine tra il 1488 e il 1562, dopo la prima ondata del XIII secolo. Questo volume dimostra come Giovanni Pico della Mirandola - icona mitica dell'Umanesimo e padre della scoperta della qabbalah - fu anche indiscutibile pioniere e sponsor della traduzione di un vasto corpus di opere filosofiche di Averroè (e di altri filosofi islamici ed ebrei), a partire dalle versioni ebraiche medievali. L'analisi minuziosa dei manoscritti "averroistici" posseduti e postillati da Pico ha dato avvio a un'indagine a tutto campo sulle fonti dell'averroismo rinascimentale, all'interno del quale il filosofo e traduttore ebreo-cretese Elia del Medigo (c. 1455-c. 1493) si rivela uno dei protagonisti. Le opere originali e le nuove traduzioni compiute da Del Medigo, su richiesta di Pico, costituiscono infatti l'atto di nascita di quella "seconda rivelazione" di Averroè che culminerà nella pubblicazione della monumentale edizione giuntina (1550-52, 1562) dell'Aristotele e dell'Averroè latino. Questo volume valorizza l’insieme della produzione averroistica di Del Medigo, mostrandone l’indisgiungibile rapporto con le 900 Tesi di Pico (pubblicate nel 1486) e l’importanza che rivestì anche per le successive generazioni di traduttori dall’ebraico. Di alcune opere e traduzioni di Del Medigo si offre qui, per la prima volta, l’edizione critica. |

The greatest ancient interpreter of Aristotle, Alexander of Aphrodisias (fl. 200 AD) exerted a profound and enduring influence upon philosophy from Boethius until the modern era. Les spécialistes ont longtemps accusé Pietro Pomponazzi d’utiliser la duperie comme une technique pour échapper à la censure de l’Église au sujet de ses thèses sur la mortalité de l’âme et le fondement matériel de la religion. Un examen conjoint du De immortalitate animae et du De incantationibus témoigne non pas d’une promotion de la duperie mais plutôt d’une cohérence entre sa compréhension de l’utilisation politique des fables et des mythes et sa compréhension de l’entendement humain, de l’âme et de la nature de la moralité. Ces thèses dépendent en partie de sa lecture d’Averroès. En particulier, il était d’avis que l’écriture n’était porteuse ni de vérité ni de fausseté au sens strict. Cependant, Pomponazzi s’écarta d’Averroès parce que son rejet de la psychologie était mêlé d’une conception pessimiste de la nature humaine qu’il considérait comme étant éloignée de l’intellection et incapable d’obtenir la vérité. |

Dans son commentaire sur le De anima d’Aristote Zabarella fait un usage non négligeable du Grand Commentaire sur le même ouvrage d’Averroès, le grand penseur andalou. On a pris l’habitude de considérer que Zabarella n’a pas pu finaliser son commentaire, étant donné qu’il fut publié à titre posthume. Il s’agirait donc d’un ouvrage incomplet. Toutefois, si on tient compte du fait que Zabarella s’intéresse avant tout, voire presque exclusivement, à l’étude de l’âme humaine, tout indique qu’il a consciemment choisi de ne pas commenter certains chapitres de l’ouvrage du Stagirite. Quant à l’impact d’Averroès sur la doctrine de l’âme exposée par Zabarella, elle a été diversement évaluée dans la recherche contemporaine, mais dans l’ensemble on y perçoit une attitude fortement critique du dernier envers le premier. Il est nécessaire de nuancer ce jugement. En effet, sur la base de trois fragments, répartis sur les trois livres, la présente recherche met en lumière qu’Averroès est considéré par Zabarella comme une vraie autorité, « auctoritas » ; que Zabarella souscrit parfois pleinement à l’interprétation du maître arabe ; et, enfin, que Zabarella explique certaines explications « erronées » de ce dernier comme l’effet inévitable de la traduction fautive du texte aristotélicien dont Averroès disposait. En somme, l’attitude de Zabarella vis-à-vis d’Averroès s’avère complexe, évitant aussi bien l’excès d’un rejet total que celui d’une acceptation aveugle. |

In order to make this massive late-Renaissance work accessible to modern readers, Kuni Sakamoto conducted a detailed textual analysis and revealed the basic tenets of Scaliger\u2019s philosophy. The story we read in books about the Renaissance tells us that Petrarch and Poggio rediscovered the books of antiquity that had been copied for centuries in medieval abbeys. The re-introduction of Greek science and philosophy, however, began in the twelfth century but occurred mainly in the thirteenth century. These works were first translated into Syriac and Arabic in the eighth and ninth centuries and stored in the House of Wisdom in Baghdad. There they were read, used, and commented on by Arab philosophers, of whom the most famous was Averroes (1126-1198), who lived in Cordoba. The translation of his commentaries on Aristotle changed the European philosophical scene profoundly. Averroes, who also had a philosophy of his own, had followers in Latin Europe until the sixteenth century. His work was well-known and he appeared in histories of philosophy until the middle of the nineteenth century, when the Arabs were pushed out of the history books. One reason was the invention of the concept of the Renaissance. |

Aristoteles' De Anima ist einer der zentralen Texte der Philosophiegeschichte. Seine grundlegende Leistung liegt in der alle Lebewesen umfassenden ontologisch-ontischen Bestimmung der Seele und ihrer Vermögen, einschließlich der Lehre vom Geist (nous), deren nähere Explikation seit der Antike Anlaß zu vielfältigen Diskussionen gab. Die vorliegende Studie ermittelt unter Rückgriff auf die traditionellen Schulen des Alexandrismus, Neuplatonismus, Averroismus und Thomismus diejenigen mannigfaltigen philosophischen und theologischen Konstellationen des 16. und 17. Jh.s, die von innerkatholischen wie interkonfessionellen Auseinandersetzungen zwischen Katholiken, Lutheranern und Calvinisten geprägt waren. Unter diesem Gesichtspunkt werden die entsprechenden Werke der Reformatoren Luther und Melanchthon, der Renaissance-Aristoteliker Portio, Toletus, Zabarella und die Conimbrincenser sowie die hier erstmals berücksichtigten Schriften der lutherischen und calvinistischen Schulphilosophen des 17. Jh.s. interpretiert. |
