Miscellany

Physical Description
  • Material: Parchment
  • Pages: I + 237 leaves
  • Leaves Format: not available
  • Dimensions: 305 x 205 mm

Detailed Description
  • Condition Description:
Ff. 199r- 199v are cut in half, the outer sides are missing.
On f. 176v , the script is very weak in parts, affecting readability.
On ff. 169r- 171v there seems to be an underlying previous script, affecting readability of the main text as well.
  • Decoration:
Titles are written on top of the pages and coloured in red and blue. Initials on ff. 226r- 237v partly in red, partly in blue, entwined and elongated with lines. Rubricated. Paragraph signs in red or blue, except for ff. 128r- 148r .
  • Layout:
Text is set in two columns.

About 50 lines to the page.

    Ff. 71r- 71v , 110r- 111v , 126r- 127v , 182v- 184v and 203v are without script. However, f. 111v seems to have some residual very weak script on it and d'Alverny points out marginal notes in a weak contemporary current script on ff. 126v , 127v , 199v and 203v .
  • Hand Description:
Text is written by multiple hands.
In the first part (ff. 1r- 125r ) the text is written by one Gallic librarian.
In the second part (ff. 128r- 225v ) the text is written by several Gallic librarians, if d'Alverny is not mistaken, except for the Theorica of Al-Kindi (ff. 200r- 203r ). This text is partly written by some English librarian.
The third part (ff. 226r- 237v ) was apparently written in the beginning of the 14th century .
  • Provenance:
On f. 1r , we have: "Incatenetur in magna libraria Sorbone".
On f. 237v , we have: "Iste liber est collegii pauperum magistrorum de Sorbona, ex legato magistri Jacobi de Padua († paulo post 1338) in arcium, medicine et theologie facultatibus professoris. Precii 4 libris."
