El pensamiento ético de Averroes apenas ha sido estudiado y ello a pesar de que es el nico filósofo islámico medieval del que se conserva un Comentario a la principal obra ristotélica sobre el tema, la Ética nicomáquea. El eje del presente trabajo es precisamente un nuevo análisis de ese Comentario a través de los conceptos de eudaimonía o felicidad, philía o amistad y tò díkaion o justicia.Averroes subraya los aspectos sociales y políticos apuntados por Aristóteles llegando a considerar el gobierno de los estados uno de los objetivos de su discurso ético. Asimismo, señala la preocupación de los legisladores por buscar la concordia civil que es considerada el mayor bien en las comunidades. Hay, pues, una conexión entre ética y política. Tiene, sin embargo, la hegemonía la política.Finalmente se considera este aspecto desatendido hasta ahora en la historiografía medieval: fue gracias al pensador andalusí como se produjo en el Occidente latino la recepción de la Ética nicomáquea de Aristóteles, obra que penetró en los círculos filosóficos y también en la cultura bajomedieval. La favorable acogida de los dos rincipales teólogos cristianos de la Edad Media, Alberto Magno y Tomás de Aquino, al Comentario de Averroes, traducido al latín por un obispo, ayudó a su difusión en el mundo medieval y más tarde en el Renacimiento. The ethical thought of Averroes has hardly been studied, and this despite the fact that he is the only medieval islamic philosopher whose Commentary on the main Aristotelian work on the subject, the Nicomachean Ethics, is preserved. The axis of this paper is precisely a new analysis of this Commentary through the concepts of eudaimonía or happiness, philía or friendship and tò díkaion or justice.Averroes underlines the social and political aspects pointed out by Aristotle, considering the government of the states one of the purposes of his ethical discourse. Likewise, he asserts the concern of legislators to seek civil harmony, which is considered the highest good in the communities. There is, consequently, a connection between ethics and politics. However, politics has the hegemony.Finally, is considered this neglected aspect so far in medieval historiography: it was thanks to the Andalusian thinker that was produced in the Latin West the reception of Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics, a work that entered philosophical circles and also late medieval culture. The favorable reception of the two main Christian theologians of the Middle Ages, Albert the Great and Thomas Aquinas, to the Commentary of Averroes, translated into Latin by a bishop, contributed to its spreading in the medieval world and later the Renaissance. |

La presente obra ofrece una perspectiva abierta de la filosofía de al-Andalus con enfoques diversos y complementarios a cargo de reconocidos especialistas del arabismo, el hebraísmo y el pensamiento medieval: Miguel Asín Palacios, Manuel Alonso, Roger Arnaldez, Miguel Cruz Hernández, Fernando Díaz Esteban, Salvador Gómez Nogales, David Gonzalo Maeso, Joaquín Lomba, Andrés Martínez Lorca y Juan Vernet. Novedad importante que reflejan estas páginas es la integración de los filósofos judíos y musulmanes en la casa común de al-Andalus, como históricamente aconteció. En la primera parte se analizan las influencias clásicas y orientales que confluyeron en la vida intelectual de la España musulmana. En la segunda se traza un amplio y detallado panorama de los principales filósofos de al-Andalus. El editor ha reconstruido en la introducción el desarrollo del pensamiento andalusí dentro de su contexto histórico. Rigor histórico-filológico, contextualización social, profundización en las cuestiones especulativas y espíritu crítico constituyen rasgos comunes de estos ensayos. Esta nueva edición se amplía con un prólogo que resume las ediciones y estudios producidos en España durante el último cuarto de siglo; una renovada bibliografía básica acerca de las fuentes históricas y literarias; y una actualizada nota biobibliográfica de los autores aquí reunidos que será útil a los jóvenes lectores e investigadores. Cierra el libro un Apéndice con tres nuevos textos: un artículo del historiador de la ciencia árabe Juan Vernet, una lograda entrevista al sabio egipcio Mahmud Ali Makki y un reciente trabajo del profesor Martínez Lorca sobre la formación de la cultura andalusí y su posterior recepción en la Europa latina. |

El pensamiento de al-Andalus, primer Renacimiento en suelo europeo, necesitaba ser recuperado en su totalidad desde una perspectiva crítica que, sin las rigideces de los manuales y lejos de los tópicos del pasado, reflejara el avance de las investigaciones llevadas a cabo durante la segunda mitad del siglo XX. A cubrir esa necesidad aspira este libro que reúne muy diversos estudios en cuya elaboración se ha intentado fundir la claridad expositiva con el rigor conceptual. La Primera Parte, que comprende tres trabajos, tiene un carácter general e introductorio. En la Segunda se estudian aspectos fundamentales del pensamiento andalusí a través de sus principales representantes, desde Ibn Hazm de Córdoba a Ibn Jaldun. Se concede atención preferente, como es lógico, a dos gigantes de la filosofía medieval, Averroes y Maimónides. La Tercera Parte está dedicada a dos figuras excepcionales del arabismo español, Miguel Asín Palacios y Emilio García Gómez, profundamente vinculados a la recuperación de la cultura de al-Andalus. Aunque es fruto del lento y sostenido esfuerzo de un especialista, el libro va destinado a todos aquellos que estén interesados en el pensamiento de la Edad Media desde una visión actual, ya se trate de estudiosos de historia, de filosofía o simplemente de lectores atraídos por la cultura de esa época verdaderamente dorada en la Península Ibérica. |

El pensamiento de al-Andalus, primer Renacimiento en suelo europeo, necesitaba ser recuperado en su totalidad desde una perspectiva crítica que, sin las rigideces de los manuales y lejos de los tópicos del pasado, reflejara el avance de las investigaciones llevadas a cabo durante la segunda mitad del siglo XX. A cubrir esa necesidad aspira este libro que reúne muy diversos estudios en cuya elaboración se ha intentado fundir la claridad expositiva con el rigor conceptual. La Primera Parte, que comprende tres trabajos, tiene un carácter general e introductorio. En la Segunda se estudian aspectos fundamentales del pensamiento andalusí a través de sus principales representantes, desde Ibn Hazm de Córdoba a Ibn Jaldun. Se concede atención preferente, como es lógico, a dos gigantes de la filosofía medieval, Averroes y Maimónides. La Tercera Parte está dedicada a dos figuras excepcionales del arabismo español, Miguel Asín Palacios y Emilio García Gómez, profundamente vinculados a la recuperación de la cultura de al-Andalus. Aunque es fruto del lento y sostenido esfuerzo de un especialista, el libro va destinado a todos aquellos que estén interesados en el pensamiento de la Edad Media desde una visión actual, ya se trate de estudiosos de historia, de filosofía o simplemente de lectores atraídos por la cultura de esa época verdaderamente dorada en la Península Ibérica. |

El libro está integrado por una serie de trabajos sobre Averroes que abordan un tema de ética (la amistad y la felicidad), otro de psicología (sobre el deseo), la reconstrucción de su famosa polémica con el teólogo iraní al-Gazzali en defensa de la filosofía y una panorámica de su recepción en la Francia medieval.Aporta también una entrevista con el autor acerca del filósofo cordobés y su papel en la recuperación del racionalismo griego en Europa. Cierran el volumen dos Apéndices: una antología de textos y una selección de monografías recomendadas. Su principal novedad consiste en subrayar la innovación del pensamiento de Averroes dentro del mundo medieval, en ruptura con la tradicional visión a través de la Escolástica que redujo su horizonte intelectual. Los lectores y estudiosos podrán así recuperar el auténtico rostro del filósofo hispano que más ha influido en la historia del pensamiento. |

La presente obra ofrece una perspectiva abierta de la filosofía de al-Andalus con enfoques diversos y complementarios a cargo de reconocidos especialistas del arabismo, el hebraísmo y el pensamiento medieval: Miguel Asín Palacios, Manuel Alonso, Roger Arnaldez, Miguel Cruz Hernández, Fernando Díaz Esteban, Salvador Gómez Nogales, David Gonzalo Maeso, Joaquín Lomba, Andrés Martínez Lorca y Juan Vernet. Novedad importante que reflejan estas páginas es la integración de los filósofos judíos y musulmanes en la casa común de al-Andalus, como históricamente aconteció. En la primera parte se analizan las influencias clásicas y orientales que confluyeron en la vida intelectual de la España musulmana. En la segunda se traza un amplio y detallado panorama de los principales filósofos de al-Andalus. El editor ha reconstruido en la introducción el desarrollo del pensamiento andalusí dentro de su contexto histórico. Rigor histórico-filológico, contextualización social, profundización en las cuestiones especulativas y espíritu crítico constituyen rasgos comunes de estos ensayos. Esta nueva edición se amplía con un prólogo que resume las ediciones y estudios producidos en España durante el último cuarto de siglo; una renovada bibliografía básica acerca de las fuentes históricas y literarias; y una actualizada nota biobibliográfica de los autores aquí reunidos que será útil a los jóvenes lectores e investigadores. Cierra el libro un Apéndice con tres nuevos textos: un artículo del historiador de la ciencia árabe Juan Vernet, una lograda entrevista al sabio egipcio Mahmud Ali Makki y un reciente trabajo del profesor Martínez Lorca sobre la formación de la cultura andalusí y su posterior recepción en la Europa latina. |
