It adopts a 'rational reconstructive' approach to the history of philosophy by affording maximum hermeneutical priority to the strongest possible interpretation of a philosopher's arguments while also paying attention to the historical context in which they worked. The central canonical figures of Medieval Islamic Philosophy - al-Kindi, al-Farabi, Avicenna, al-Ghazali, Averroes - are presented chronologically along with an introduction to the central themes of Islamic theology and the Greek philosophical tradition they inherited. Il en est ainsi de deux autres \u00e9tudes, l'une sur Qirqisani et l'autre sur al-Muqammis qui ont ouvert la piste d'une analyse renouvel\u00e9e de l'histoire religieuse du juda\u00efsme aux IXe et Xe si\u00e8cles, chantier sur lequel Vajda n'a jamais cess\u00e9 de travailler. Cet ouvrage s'adresse aux philosophes, historiens et linguistes qui s'int\u00e9ressent aux fondements de l'histoire de la philosophie m\u00e9di\u00e9vale, nourrie par les pens\u00e9es chr\u00e9tienne, musulmane et juive. Les \u00e9tudes ici r\u00e9unies repr\u00e9sentent \u00e9galement un jalon dans l'histoire de l'orientalisme des XIXe et XXe si\u00e8cles.
